Balanced SSFP & Modifications for Unique Contrast

چکیده
The term “steady state” refers to the equilibrium condition that evolves when magnetization experiences a train of radiofrequency (RF) pulses. If RF pulses are applied on the order of seconds (TR≈T1), the magnetization decays away completely in the transverse plane between RF pulses, but may not recover fully along the longitudinal axis. In the resulting steady state, the magnetization tipped away from the longitudinal axis by an RF pulse is exactly cancelled by recovery of magnetization along the longitudinal axis during the TR. However, “steady-state sequences” typically refer to a more specific case in which both T1 and T2 relaxation are interrupted by very rapid RF pulses (TR≤T2<T1). In this situation, there is residual transverse magnetization at the end of the TR that will be tipped by the subsequent RF pulse.

Balanced Phase Contrast Steady State Free Precession (PC-SSFP): Velocity Encoding by Gradient Inversion
chnique for velocity measurements (PC-SSFP) is presented that combines CINE Phase Contrast (PC) MRI and balanced Steady State Free Precession. Sensitivity to through plane velocities was established by inverting (i.e. negating) the slice select gradient for consecutively executed balanced SSFP pulse sequences. Velocity sensitivity (venc) could be adjusted by increasing the first moments of the ...
متن کاملAnalysis of the BOLD Signal Characteristics in balanced SSFP fMRI: a Monte-Carlo Simulation
Introduction Recently, balanced SSFP (Steady State Free Precession) has been proposed as an alternative method to measure the BOLD contrast [1-3]. Two different contrast mechanisms have been explored experimentally: (1) transition-band SSFP fMRI (BOSS fMRI) that detects the BOLD induced frequency shift near the transition part of the SSFP profile [1,2], and (2) pass-band SSFP fMRI that is belie...
متن کاملNon-Contrast Enhanced Renal Angiography Using Multiple Inversion Recovery and Steady-State Free Precession
Introduction: Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is a well-known cause of renal hypertension and can lead to chronic kidney failure. The recent connection between gadolinium contrast agents and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) has prompted renewed interest in non-contrast enhanced MR angiography (NCE MRA) for the diagnosis of RAS, most notably methods based on 3D balanced steady-state free precessi...
متن کاملSpiral balanced steady-state free precession cardiac imaging.
Balanced steady-state free precession (SSFP) sequences are useful in cardiac imaging because they achieve high signal efficiency and excellent blood-myocardium contrast. Spiral imaging enables the efficient acquisition of cardiac images with reduced flow and motion artifacts. Balanced SSFP has been combined with spiral imaging for real-time interactive cardiac MRI. New features of this method t...
متن کاملBalanced SSFP profile asymmetries in cartilage
Introduction: Osteoarthritis of the knee affects approximately 30% of the American population over 60 [1]. Currently osteoarthritis cannot be detected until after significant cartilage degradation. Early detection of reduced glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in cartilage would be useful for early diagnosis of osteoarthritis. The gagCEST contrast mechanism succeeds in imaging GAGs thanks to their asymme...
